My Morning Skincare Routine
Fresh face Fridays has quickly turned into fresh face every day and I’m not complaining at all.
I’ve never truly had a “skincare routine”, but with the summer high temperatures and Covid amongst us, I’ve had time to really focus on my skin and develop a true morning skincare routine.
My motto for skincare has always been “keep it simple”. If there are too many steps, I know I’m not going to do it.
I’ve made sure my routine is minimal but yet effective. I’ve watched countless videos and done my own research to finally come to a routine that my skin and I agree on.
I remember when you couldn’t catch me without a face full of makeup.
Not because I needed it, but because it made me feel comfortable.
After some much needed me time, I’m comfortable in my own skin and loving every bit of it. It’s healthier and more radiant than ever.
We’ve actually had the time to become friends and not just acquaintances. When you show love to something, you reap the benefits…that’s with any and everything in life.
Currently I use about 4-5 products in the morning and the routine is less than 10 minutes. I try my hardest to stay consistent and notice the more consistent I am the more my skin positively responds. The goal here is consistency.
As I’ve solidified my routine over the past few months, I’ve been fortunate enough to stumble upon some very dope black women owned beauty brands that I use daily.
You have to try them out if nothing else, I’ll be sure to note which ones they are. Now presenting my morning skin care routine for positively radiant skin:
My Morning Skincare Routine
I start my morning skincare routine in the shower. I feel like it opens my pores and it’s less messy.
Every day I begin my routine with Clean and Clear Lemon Zesty Scrub. It smells amazing and it wakes me up in the morning.
This gentle scrub is made of micor-scrubbies and contains lemon extract and Vitamin C. This scrub is also gentle enough for everyday use and great for all skin types.
Next I cleanse my face with the Farmacy Clean Bee Ultra Gentle Facial Cleanser. I absolutely love this product.
It’s gentle yet powerful enough to lift impurities and excess oil from the skin. it’s truly perfect for any skin type and contains honey and hyaluronic acid for moisture.
After the shower, I let my face air dry as I brush my teeth and put on my contacts.
My next step in this routine is one of my favorites…hydrating rose water. VieBeauty, a black woman owned business, released 30 Roses Hydrating Rose Water earlier this year and I literally was one of the first to order and have been using it ever since.
Not only does it hydrate and balance skin, but it rejuvenates, reduces inflammation and is anti-aging. Not only do I use this product freshly after cleansing my skin, but during the day when I need a refresh or skin pick me up!
What more can you ask for in a product?
After I pat the rose water in, I mix my Black Girl Sunscreen and Ponds Dry Skin Cream Facial Moisturizer together and apply them evenly on my face and neck.
I love this combo.
The Black Girl Sunscreen, another black woman owned business, is SPF 30 and truly brown girl friendly. It doesn’t leave a white cast or residue at all and is even infused with avocado, jojoba and sunflower oil.
I’ve been using Ponds Dry Skin Cream Facial Moisturizer ever since one of my favorite makeup artist recommended it to me sometime last year.
It evenly locks in moisture and doesn’t leave your skin super oily or heavy but hydrated and plump. It’s great for prepping the skin for makeup as well.
Healthy and hydrated skin is the ultimate goal and with these simple steps I’ve accomplished just that.
Not only do I focus on my facial skincare but my body as well.
With these extreme weather conditions my eczema always tends to flare up and this season is no different.
In order to ensure that my skin stays moisturized to combat these dry spells, I have to make sure my skin has a little extra love.
I’ve been using Vitamin E skin oil and Aquaphor Healing Ointment for months and it truly does the body good. I would apply the Vitamin E skin oil fresh out the shower and then add the Aquaphor Healing Ointment on the problem areas.
A few weeks ago, I added two new products to the lineup, and they are both black women owned brands.
I have replaced my vitamin E skin oil with the We Are Crown’d Skin Gloss. It not only contains grapeseed oil, avocado oil and calendula oil, but is an anti-inflammatory and smells amazing. I have the Majesty scent which has raw lavender buds in it.
When I’m feeling extra which is about 5 out of the 7 days of the week, I like to add OMJ Skincare Lavender Vanilla body butter to my legs and feet for extra moisture and hydration.
The butter is handmade, nourishing and smells amazing. With shea butter at the center I know this product is truly benefiting me and combating these eczema dry spells.
Hopefully, I’ve encouraged you to try a step or two or even a product from my morning skincare routine. This routine has allowed me to truly be comfortable in my own skin and have a positively radiant glow daily. Love the skin you’re in, sis!
Until next time…
